How can we help?
Have a question about SnipSimple or a purchase? Email us. We read every message and usually reply within a few days.
Getting started
- Open SnipSimple. It lives in the menu bar as a scissors icon, not in the Dock.
- Allow screen recording. The first time you take a screenshot, macOS asks for permission. Turn SnipSimple on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Quit and reopen SnipSimple. macOS only applies the permission after the app restarts.
- Press ⌃⌘A, drag over the part of the screen you want, and press Return to copy it.
Settings are in the menu bar icon › Settings… (⌘,).

FAQ
⇧⌘4 or ⇧⌘3 opens the macOS screenshot tool instead of SnipSimple
macOS uses ⇧⌘4 for its own area screenshot. Turn that one off in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts… › Screenshots by unchecking Save picture of selected area as a file. ⇧⌘3 is the same: there it's Save picture of screen as a file. Or pick different shortcuts in SnipSimple's Settings › General.
SnipSimple only captures my wallpaper, or asks for permission again
Check that SnipSimple is turned on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then quit SnipSimple from its menu bar icon and open it again. If it is already on, turn it off and on again, then reopen the app.
Where are my screenshots saved?
In the folder chosen in Settings › General, which is your Downloads folder unless you change it. By default, copying also saves a file there, so you can always find the image later. Turn that off with Also save a file in the same tab.
What can Quick Capture do?
There are two shortcuts, and you can use both. ⇧⌘4 copies the image to your clipboard. ⇧⌘3 uploads it and copies the link (with Cloud). Turn on Also save a file in Settings › General and both shortcuts save a PNG too. You can change either shortcut there.
How do filters work?
Choose a filter in Settings › Style › Filter: Black & White, Vintage, Lomo or Film 70s. Press ⌘F in the toolbar to turn your filter and frame on or off, and you see the result before you copy. Filters only change the colours of the screenshot itself. Your arrows, text and frame stay as they are. Black & White and Vintage are free. Lomo and Film 70s come with Cloud or Lifetime.
How long do upload links last?
Links on SnipSimple Cloud last 90 days from upload. After that, the image is deleted and the link stops working. See the privacy policy for details.
How do I delete something I uploaded?
To delete one link, click the SnipSimple menu bar icon, open Recent Uploads, choose the upload and click Revoke Link…. To delete everything uploaded from this Mac, use Settings › Upload › Delete All…. Copies cached by browsers and Cloudflare can last up to about a day. For a link that isn't in your recent list, email us the link and we'll delete it.
Some buttons have a lock
Those are paid features, such as uploading and the gradient and wallpaper frames. Filters: Black & White and Vintage are free; Lomo and Film 70s come with Cloud or Lifetime. Click a locked item to see the options. See pricing.
I bought SnipSimple on another Mac
Works on every Mac signed in to your Apple ID — no device limit. If a purchase doesn't show up, use Restore Purchases in the app.
Upload failed
Check your internet connection, then try Test upload in Settings › Upload. Other limits that can cause a failure:
- Images can be up to 20 MB.
- Each Mac can upload up to 500 images a day.
If uploads still fail, email us with the error message.
I don't see notifications after saving or uploading
Turn on notifications for SnipSimple in System Settings › Notifications. For uploads, if notifications are off, SnipSimple shows a small window with the link instead.
Can I turn uploading off completely?
Yes. In Settings › Upload, set Upload to to Off. Nothing leaves your Mac after that unless you turn uploads back on. Purchases are handled by the App Store.
How do I manage or cancel my Cloud subscription?
Open the App Store app, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Account Settings › Subscriptions › Manage. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or before the free trial ends, to avoid being charged. You keep Cloud until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting SnipSimple does not cancel the subscription.
Refunds and purchases
Purchases are made through the Mac App Store, so Apple handles refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
