Privacy Policy

SnipSimple is a screenshot app with no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. This page says exactly what leaves your Mac, and when.

Effective October 21, 2026 · Applies to the SnipSimple app for macOS, its upload service at snipsimple.app, and this website.

  • On your Mac
  • When you upload
  • Who can see a link
  • How long
  • Deleting
  • Contact
  • Nothing leaves your Mac unless you upload. Copy and Save stay local.
  • No account. Uploads are tied to a random device token, not to your name or email. If you choose a custom link, its name appears in your links and connects them to each other.
  • The link is the permission. Uploads are not listed or indexed anywhere. Only people who have the link can open it.
  • We don't store IP addresses, and request logs on our upload service are switched off.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
  • Links expire after 90 days. You can delete everything you uploaded from your Mac at any time.

Who we are

SnipSimple is made by Home M K Inc., a company registered in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). If you have any question about this policy, email support@snipsimple.com.

What stays on your Mac

Screenshots, annotations, the files you save and your preferences all stay on your Mac. SnipSimple uses the macOS Screen Recording permission only to take the screenshot you ask for, at the moment you ask for it.

The app has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. It does not track you across apps or websites.

What we receive when you upload

Uploading is optional and only happens when you choose it: the Upload button or ⌘U in the toolbar, or the Quick Upload shortcut. You can turn uploading off entirely in Settings › Upload. Uploads go to SnipSimple Cloud, our hosted upload service, which needs a Cloud subscription.

When you upload, our service receives and stores:

  • The image you uploaded, with its file type, size and upload time.
  • A device token. The first time you upload, the app asks our service for a random token and keeps it in your Mac's Keychain. Our service stores only a one-way hash of that token, never the token itself, so it can tell which uploads came from the same Mac.
  • Usage counters for that token: how many images it has uploaded, overall and today. These enforce the limits below.
  • Your custom link name, if you set one (SnipSimple Cloud only). We store it with your device token so that links like alex.snipsimple.app/AbC1234 open your images. If you use SnipSimple Cloud on more than one Mac, we keep a keyed hash of your subscription’s purchase ID with your link name, so your other Macs can use the same name. We cannot turn it back into your purchase ID, and it is deleted when the name is freed.

We do not receive your name, email, Apple ID, contacts, location, or any other information about you or your Mac. The only exception is a custom link name you choose yourself. If you pick your real name, anyone with one of your links can see it.

IP addresses

We don't store IP addresses. Our upload service runs on Cloudflare, and its request logging is switched off. When the app requests a new device token, the connecting IP address is used briefly to limit how many tokens one network can request per minute. That counter is not written to our storage.

Like any network, Cloudflare necessarily processes connection data to deliver traffic. That processing is covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Where uploads are stored

Uploaded images are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 storage bucket that only our upload service can read. Storage region: Cloudflare R2, Eastern North America. Cached copies may be served from Cloudflare locations worldwide.

Limits

  • Up to 20 MB per image.
  • Up to 500 uploads per device per day.

Who can see an upload

Each upload gets a link like https://snipsimple.app/AbC1234. Anyone who has the link can open the image, so share it the way you would share the image itself. Nobody else can find it:

  • The storage bucket is private and there is no public list, gallery or search of uploads.
  • The 7-character id is random, with about 2 trillion possibilities, so links can't practically be guessed.
  • Images are served with noindex, which asks search engines not to index them, and with a no-referrer policy.

A custom link name is public by design: it is part of every link you share after setting it. People who have two of your links can tell they came from the same person. Links without a name (snipsimple.app/AbC1234) do not show this. We refuse offensive names and names that imitate brands or sign-in pages.

Because a custom link name is public and chosen by you, the App Store lists this data as linked to you. If you never set a name, your uploads stay tied only to an anonymous random token for your Mac.

Uploaded images are stored unencrypted in our storage, so we are technically able to access them. We don't look at them, analyse them, sell them, or use them to train AI models.

How long uploads are kept

Uploads expire 90 days after they are uploaded. A cleanup job runs once a day and permanently deletes expired images, so an image may stay available for up to about a day past the 90 days.

To make links load quickly, Cloudflare may keep a cached copy of an image for up to 24 hours after it was last fetched. That is why a deleted or expired link can keep working for up to about a day in some places.

Your device token stays valid until you reset it. The hashed token and its counters contain nothing about you. If you set a custom link, its name is stored next to the hashed token.

Deleting your uploads

  • Delete one link: click the SnipSimple menu bar icon, open Recent Uploads, choose the upload and click Revoke Link…. The image is deleted and the link stops working. This works for recent uploads made from this Mac. For any other link, email us the link and we'll delete it.
  • Delete everything: Settings › Upload › Delete All… permanently deletes every image uploaded from this Mac with its current token. Cached copies can last up to about a day.
  • Start fresh: Reset… in the same tab throws away the device token and gets a new one next time. Clear your uploads first: after a reset, the app can no longer delete images uploaded under the old token, and they simply expire after 90 days.
  • Custom link: you choose the name once in Settings › Upload › Custom link. It can't be renamed or released afterwards, and every Mac on the same Cloud subscription uses that one name. The name is freed 30 days after your Cloud subscription ends; after that, someone else can choose it. Your images stay reachable at their plain snipsimple.app addresses until they expire or you delete them.
  • Uninstalling SnipSimple does not delete your uploads. They expire on their own after 90 days.

Legal requests and abuse

We remove content when we receive a lawful request or a valid abuse report. We may suspend a device token that is used to upload illegal content.

Purchases

SnipSimple is free to download. Optional purchases, a yearly Cloud subscription and a one-time Lifetime purchase, are sold through the Mac App Store and billed to your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your card number, billing address or Apple Account details. To unlock what you bought, the app checks the purchase record Apple provides on your Mac. Apple's handling of your purchase is described in Apple's privacy policy.

Checking a Cloud subscription. When you subscribe to Cloud, the app sends the subscription record that Apple signed to our upload server, which checks Apple's signature to confirm the subscription is active. From it we keep only the plan (Cloud), its expiry date, whether it was a test purchase, and when we last checked. We do not keep the transaction ID, your Apple ID or any other purchase details (apart from the keyed hash described under custom links, if you set one), and we use this only to decide whether your Mac can upload to SnipSimple Cloud. Lifetime purchases are not checked by our server.

Diagnostics

SnipSimple includes no crash-reporting or diagnostics SDKs. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your Mac's Privacy & Security settings, Apple may share aggregated crash logs with us. These contain no screenshots and no personal identifiers.

This website

snipsimple.com is a static website. It has no analytics code, sets no cookies, loads no third-party resources, has no forms, and every page forbids running scripts. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. Links to the Mac App Store take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.

Children

SnipSimple is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has uploaded something through SnipSimple, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws. These can include the right to access, correct or delete personal information and to complain to a supervisory authority. SnipSimple has no accounts, so we cannot look you up by name or email. To have uploads deleted, use Revoke Link… or Delete All… in the app, or send us the links.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date at the top. For material changes, we will also note the change in the app's release notes or on this page.
